Land and Resources: The region is located in the southeastern part of the Russian Federation between the Stanovoi Range in the north and the Amur River in the south. It borders on China in the south and southwest, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in the north, Khabarovsk Territory in the northeast and east, and the Jewish Autonomous Region in the southeast. The region has an area of 364 000 km2. The Stanovoi Range is located in the northern part of the region, while the mountain chain of the Yankan, Tukuringra, Soktakhan, and Dazhgdi ranges is situated to the south. The Zeya-Bureya and Amur-Zeya plains occupy nearly 2/5 of the region. The main rivers are the Amur, Zeya, and Bureya.
Climate: Amur Region has a continental climate with monsoon features. The average summer temperature is +20°C, and the average winter temperature is -30°C.
Transportation: The territory is accessed by two railroads, the Trans-Siberian railway and the Baikal-Amur Mainline. Trans-Siberian Railway is 130 km from Blagoveshchensk. There are flights from Moscow, Vladivostok, Tynda; buses between cities and towns of the region, ferry-boat from China. Public transportation in Blagoveshchensk consists of trolleybuses, buses and marshrutkas.
Blagoveshchensk is one of the oldest settlements in the Russian Far East, founded in 1856. It is a traditional center of trade and gold mining.
Amur Region`s nature conservation fund includes 2 state preserves (Zeisky and Khingansky), 2 republican preserves (Norsky and Khingano-Arkharinsky), 20 regional preserves, 123 natural sites, botanical gardens, and rare and vanishing animal and plant species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation.
Blagoveshchensk is one of the oldest merchant cities of the Far East and has a rich historical and cultural heritage.

There are more than 80 monuments of architecture in Blagoveshchensk, among them the railway station, two churches and others. There are also 2 parks and recreational areas with fountains.
Annunciation Cathedral was restored on the historical place of the Blagoveshchensk`s first cathedral, which was destroyed in the 1930s. Besides, the arch originally built in 1891 and later demolished was opened in 2005.
One of the armored boats of the Zee-Bureinskaya brigade is placed now on the embankment of the city as a monument to the Great Patriotic War.
