Land and Resources: Tula Oblast is located in Russia`s Central Federal District and borders Moscow, Ryazan, Lipetsk, Oryol, and Kaluga Oblasts. Tula Oblast contains more than 1,600 rivers and streams. Major rivers include: Don River, Oka River, Upa River. Tula is situated on a plateau that is deeply incised by the Don River and is in the transitional belt of forest and steppe.

Transportation: Transportation system in Tula Oblast is well-developed. There are important highways М2 “Crimea”, М4 “Don”. The oblast is connected with Moscow, Bryansk, Voronezh, Tambov, Orel, Kursk, Kaluga, Lipetsk, and Ryazan. There are large railway stations in Tula, Novomoskovsk, Uzlovaya. The Oka is navigable. There is an airport “Klokovo” in Tula. Public transport consists of buses, trams, trolleybuses and marshrutkas.
The town of Tula has existed since at least the 14th century. A musical instrument, the Tula accordion, is named for the city, which is a center of manufacture for such instruments sold throughout Russia and the world. Tula is also renowned for traditional Russian pryaniki, cookies made with honey and gingerbread. In the West, Tula is perhaps best-known as the center of samovar production: the Russian equivalent of "coals to Newcastle" is "You don`t take a samovar to Tula."
Tula Oblast has as many as 32 museums. Several are located in the administrative center of the oblast, the city of Tula, notably the Tula State Arms Museum, the Tula Kremlin, and the Tula Samovar Museum, the Tula Pyanik Museum. Another important cultural tourist attraction is the home and country estate of Leo Tolstoy, Yasnaya Polyana, located 12 km outside of the city of Tula.
The region also has four professional theaters, a philharmonic orchestra, and a circus.
The State Memorial and Natural Preserve “Museum-Estate of Leo Tolstoy “Yasnaya Polyana” is located just 200 kilometers south of Moscow. A three-hour ride by bus or car from Moscow will bring you to the entrance towers that have for years been the symbol of the Yasnaya Polyana museum. Yasnaya Polyana is a phenomenon of Russia`s historic and cultural life. With its authentic buildings, surrounded by picturesque forests, orchards, and parks, it is a typical Russian estate, which will give you an insight into the every-day life and traditions of the 19 th and 20 th centuries.
Tula was awarded the title Hero City in 1976.
Tula Kremlin with nine towers: Spasskaya, Odoevskaya, Nikitskaya, Ivanovskaya, Naugolnaya, Pyatnitskaya and others. There are two cathedrals: Assumption Cathedral, Bogoyavlensky Cathedral (with State Arms Museum, which is the oldest in Russia).
Tula Regional Arts Museum is one of the largest in Russia with collections of icons and works of famous Italian, French and German artists.
Tula State Drama Theatre is one of the largest in Russia, founded in 1777.

Popular tourist attraction are Kulikovo Pole (Kulikovo Battle Museum), Polenovo (Museum-estate of a famous Russian artist Polenov), and Bogoroditsk (Palac and park of the 18th century).
